Here a Show, There a Show, Everywhere a Fashion Show!

Who doesn’t love a fashion show? Whether we’re watching the catwalk divas from our favourite glossies (with all of their surefooted grace!) or whether it’s an impromptu fashion show at the local shopping centre, we’ll all take a sneak peek. Wherever a fashion show sets up shop, you can be sure that expectant and appreciative crowds will follow. It’s a glamour thing I guess.

The whole point of a fashion show is to showcase something new. Whether it’s a brand new collection, a new spin on an old favourite or an exciting birth of a whole new style, let’s face it, fashion shows bring with them an air of expectancy and excitement. The more famous the designer, the more excitement you can expect.

In all likelihood most of us are never going to attend a live fashion show unless we really put our minds to it, but with the arrival of the Internet and its rapidly advancing technology, every single one of us can watch a fashion show, 24/7.

There was once a time that streaming video over the Internet would not only bring your own computer to its knees, but you would probably tie up your whole neighbourhood’s Internet connection as well.

Not anymore! Streaming video on the Internet is now the norm rather than the exception.

Today, there are some switched on catalogue sites that actually host their own very professional fashion shows and make them available on their own sites. Despite being catalogue retailers, their fashion shows are very professional and informative, giving us an insight as to their commitment to the world of fashion and to the Internet.

The beauty of these fashion shows is the fact that the clothes and accessories are all very attainable and available for purchase and delivery to your own door with the click of a mouse, and the best part is that you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own armchair. And unlike the ultra chic catwalk fashion shows, you don’t need ultra deep pockets to pay for them.

What does this mean for you and me? In short you don’t need to be in the right place at the right time or have high powered society connections to watch some great fashion shows. You just need a regular broadband connection and a comfy chair. Sit down, switch on and enjoy.

Fashion Show Organizing Tips

Organizing a fashion show is one of a challenging task. It needs team work where it involves many people’s co-operation and co-ordination. Whether your fashion show is to be a simple fundraiser or an elaborate fashion extravaganza you will have to work hard to achieve proud tears and rounds of applause. Choice of lighting, location and music are important elements of the production process.

Organizing a fashion show means selecting and inviting a suitable judge, selecting models and new fashioned apparels that suit them, selecting a theme and getting the hall, wall and floor done accordingly, choosing a place or a hall that has a ramp, selecting music, inviting the press and photographers, selling tickets, and the list goes on and on.

Do you want to keep it on a local level or go big? In either case, prepare yourself for a little begging as well as negotiating and you had better be organized or be good at it. Get yourself a land line because your cell phone bill is going to be outrageous if you don’t have a plan. Factor in your fuel consumption as you will no doubt be doing a lot of traveling.

Theme also plays a role in this. The environment should ideally reflect the central theme of the clothing line you are featuring. This can be achieved with props and decor as well as through the location itself. The wrong venue can kill a show.

The judge for the fashion show needs to be someone famous and also should have idea about the recent trends in fashion. The audience are more fascinated about the one who presides the show as well. There should be a minimum of 3 judges to judge a particular show so that the final results are not biased. Judges should be invited at-least a month prior to the day of the show. Make sure the judges are warmly welcomed and are escorted to their seats by the ushers.

Models should be selected with care so that they merge with the theme and the clothes or any fashionables they display. The make up man should also be invited to dress up the models and make them presentable on time. The models and the make up man are free to select the clothes and costumes that suit them. The theme is usually selected depending on the clothes that are to be show cased.

Own The Runway: Tips For Putting On A Fabulous Fashion Show

Say you’re an aspiring fashion designer, or a college student majoring in fashion design. If you have designed your very own clothing line, and you want people to see it, but you don’t have enough networking connections to put on a professional-level fashion show, it is up to you to come up with some creative and thrifty way to showcase your designs. Hosting your own amateur fashion show is a great way for a new designer to gain exposure, and to take some seriously impressive initiative. Thankfully, our fashion school experts have compiled a list of tips for putting on a fabulous fashion show, no matter what amount of money or connections you’re working with.

Firstly, you have to draw up a budget for your show. Even if you don’t have a lot of money to spend, you still have to figure out how to wisely spend the little you’ve got for optimal results. One good first step is to try and find some sponsors. If you’re a student and your parents are graciously helping you out with your tuition, they might be in a good position to sponsor your fashion show as well. Sponsors can also donate things like a venue or concessions in lieu of money. It all ends up helping.

Of course, your fashion show must have a theme. Hopefully, your designs will be enough to draw inspiration for a theme. Pick one that represents the emotions conveyed in your look. Then, decorate accordingly. You can buy cheap light fixtures and fabrics to create mood lighting and decoration. You can also use other cheap decorating methods like spray paint, flowers, wooden boards, old tires and other junkyard finds to create a set that will enhance your designs. Finally, choose music for the show that also fits with your overall theme.

Next, you need to find a venue to host your show. Big-budget fashion shows put on by high-end designers usually choose a trendy location, like a sophisticated theater or a club. However, when putting on your own, smaller fashion show, the more creative you can get with the venue, the better your show will be. If the weather permits, look for an outdoor venue, like an unused bandstand in a park, or a particularly, well-lit city alleyway. Make sure you clear it with a manager, but chances are you’ll be able to use a public space for free, or very little cost.

Once all the rest is arranged, you will need to send out invitations in order to get the word out about your show. Invitations can also be made cheaply out of recycled materials and a little bit of paint or markers. Make sure your invitations list all the vital details, like the name of the event, the designer’s name, the date and the location, but keep them a little bit elusive as well. That way, you will entice people into coming, because they’ll want to learn more about the mysteriously cool invitation they’ve received.

Now you have an amateur fashion show all queued up! But the real magic is up to you, and the love and creativity you pour into your own designs.

Fashion Show Events

A fashion show is an event put on by a fashion designer to showcase his or her upcoming line of clothing. The first American fashion show likely took place in 1903 in the New York City store Ehrlich Brothers. American retailers imported the concept of the fashion show in the early 1900s.

Featuring runway garments from the spring and fall/winter collections of ten influential couturiers and designers, the exhibition explores the ideas and inspirations motivating Paris fashion today, and why, in an age of globalization and instantaneous communication, this venerable city remains the fashion capital. The city has been a magnet for stylish men and women since the seventeenth century, but the French fashion industry has evolved considerably over the centuries and never more than in the last few years.

Recent assessments of the current state of Paris fashion have varied widely, with some pundits announcing its death, and others claiming that it is closer to fine art than ever before. By using fashion, a medium which has always been associated with self-expression and personal identity, these designers seek to demonstrate how the use (or misuse) of technology and its modes of production have the power to stimulate, delight, and inspire in ways as yet untapped in the fashion world. In the 1800s, “fashion parades” periodically took place in Paris couture salons.

The first American fashion show likely took place in 1903 in the New York City store Ehrlich Brothers. By 1910, large department stores such as Wanamaker’s in New York City and Philadelphia were also staging fashion shows. By the 1920s, retailers across the United States held fashion shows. In the 1970s and 1980s, American designers began to hold their own fashion shows in private spaces apart from such retailers.

Models

Models in a fashion show have to change their clothes all the time to present new items to the public. Models are supposed to influence us in a positive way. Models strutting catwalks at London Fashion Week should provide a certificate attesting their good health, but there should be no outright ban on wafer-thin women, the British Fashion Council said on Friday. Spain and Italy have recommended banning models with a body mass index (BMI) of less than 18. “We favor the alternative approach of promoting good health based on medical assessments of models participating in London Fashion Week,” it said.

The report acknowledged there was a problem with eating disorders among models and recommended a health education and awareness programme should be set up urgently. “During the investigation, evidence of the vulnerability of women in the modeling progression was startling and models are at high risk of eating disorders,” said Denise Kingsmill, chair of the inquiry.

In a typical fashion show, models walk the runway dressed in the clothing created by the designer. Because the topic of fashion shows remains to find its historian, the earliest history of fashion shows remains obscure. Too many adolescent girls decide early on that they need to be “thin” like the models in order to be “pretty” when really they just need to keep themselves healthy.
